Reviews for Sloping Deck Restaurant
Review highlights
Based on 362 reviewsSloping Deck Restaurant is widely appreciated for its charming, historic ambiance and unique interior, featuring a notably sloping floor and steep staircase that add character to the dining experience. Customers consistently highlight the quality of the food, especially the well-crafted scones and a broad selection of cakes that are flavorful without being overly sweet. The restaurant’s layout, combining a lively bakery and takeaway on the ground floor with a cozy dining area upstairs, offers a distinctive atmosphere. Attentive and friendly service, along with the dog-friendly policy, enhances the welcoming environment. While the compact and sloped dining space may require some adjustment, it contributes to the restaurant’s quaint and memorable appeal favored by many visitors.
This is a lively little cake shop/cafe/ restaurant. We were visiting Dartmouth for the day and popped in for a Devon cream tea, but decided to have coffee with it instead.Downstairs is the shop part, selling endless cakes etc.The upstairs, is up very steep, narrow, leaning staircase, which leads into two different sections of the restaurant with chairs and tables on both sides. It is very compact as the whole building is leaning, but it doesn't feel cramped when you are seated at your table.Service was good and we could have shared a devon tea and it would have been plenty, as the scones were quite large and filling, and there was plenty of coffee in one pot for both of us.Overall a very nice place for a snack or lunch.
We really enjoyed the food and service. Great standard. I had been in 2023, so made a beeline for the restaurant again. Local relatives were not aware, they are now ! And well impressed. Of course its a bit if a secret since the takeaway on the ground floor somewhat disguises the upper floor access. Don't spoil it as back in November!!!
Very interesting Restaurant, Bakery and Takeaway with history added to it. Staff were very good to us, especially with it being dog friendly in the upstairs area. Good food and a large selection of cakes to choose from and surprisingly weren't too sweet which was unusual but tasted amazing
The scones are the best I've ever had, light, fluffy, golden brown top, no baking powder taste, and the jam and cream it comes with is spot on aswell. The interior of the restaurant is unique, authentic and historic. Just the ceiling is astounding.
Strange but quaint place to get to. Be prepared for a staircase, a handrail on both sides, and you'll need it to, to climb upstairs. Once upstairs, we were approached by a smiling member of staff, who said, "Sit where you like." The floor slopes, but once seated, it seems you forget. We all had Devon cream & jam scone with a cup of coffee each. Wow, the scone freshly made earlier, was warm. It just melted in your mouth. Once you got the jam & cream on, or is it cream & jam. My aunt & I had a latte & my husband & uncle had a cappuccino. Stand carefully for the loo, you may fall. There is only one unisex toilet. We paid and left. Back down the staircase again....the restaurant is above a shop, which is situated by the museum. Not for disabled people..though I made it with my walking stick. No car parking.
My family and I have been visiting this bakery on our annual Devon holiday for years and we love the choice of cakes available.I cannot comment on the restaurant part as we always have take out and sit and eat it on a nearby bench looking over at the dart, bliss! We will be visiting multiple times again when we visit again in August.
Looking for a place to eat on a first visit to Dartmouth, stumbled upon this. The clue to how nice the food was lay in the fact of how busy and bustling it was. With covid, it's takeaway or an outside table service, bit tight for space but the service more than made up for it.The moment we hovered near a table, a friendly member of staff was there to welcome us to sit down, once they'd wiped everything. There was a straightforward menu to accommodate most tastes, including a veggie option for myself of a delicious bean, pea, and spinach burger. Indeed all of us really loved the our food - fish and chips, battered tiger prawns. Despite how busy they were, staff were so attentive and prompt (they must be worn out by closing). The array of cakes and savouries for takeaway were amazing. I'm so glad we found this place. Will seek it out again next time we are in Dartmouth.
Stopped by on the search for some quick lunch & got 3 sandwiches and a couple of their cakes. Everything was delicious, the bread and fillings were all very fresh and the cakes were amazing too. Would definitely recommend for anyone in the area!
